Some vibration during a spin cycle is normal, but a machine that walks, bangs, or repeatedly stops needs attention. First pause the cycle and redistribute heavy items such as towels or bedding. Check that the machine is level and that all feet touch the floor. New machines must also have their transit bolts removed before use.

Persistent shaking can point to worn shock absorbers, suspension springs, damaged drum bearings, a loose pulley, or a machine that has not been installed on a stable surface. Continuing to run it can worsen damage to the drum and cabinet. A technician can inspect the suspension, bearings, motor, and installation level, then explain what needs repair before any work begins.

Installation makes a major difference

A front-load machine needs a firm, level base and correctly adjusted feet. Do not place it on an unstable stand or use loose packing underneath to silence movement. If vibration began after installation or moving house, re-check transit bolts, leveling, inlet and drain hose clearance before assuming a major mechanical fault.
